Life Saving Care When It Matters Most
Lifesaving Care When Every Minute Matters
When a dog experiences severe blood loss or life-threatening anemia, a blood transfusion can be the critical treatment that gives them the strength they need while the underlying condition is diagnosed and treated.
At Lava Rock Veterinary Hospital, we provide emergency blood transfusions as part of our urgent care and critical care services. Our team is equipped to evaluate critically ill patients, perform blood typing and compatibility testing when indicated, administer transfusions, and closely monitor your pet throughout treatment.
Whether your pet is one of our patients or has been referred by your family veterinarian, we're here to provide compassionate, timely care when it matters most.
If your pet is experiencing an emergency, please call us immediately at (435) 288-0288.

Blood transfusions may be recommended when a patient has lost a significant amount of blood or their body is no longer able to produce or maintain healthy red blood cells.
Common conditions that may require a blood transfusion include:
-
Trauma or severe injuries
-
Internal bleeding
-
Surgical complications
-
Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA)
-
Rodenticide (rat poison) toxicity
-
Splenic masses or ruptured tumors
-
Bleeding disorders
-
Severe anemia
-
Certain cancers
-
Tick-borne diseases
-
Other critical illnesses
Every patient is different. Our veterinarians carefully evaluate each pet to determine whether a blood transfusion is appropriate based on their condition, diagnostic results, and overall treatment plan.
